Cheely to Speak on Spirituality, Leadership at Catholic Young Adult Retreat

"Skyhooks" popular among Triangle church, business groups

RALEIGH, NC (June 1, 2004)—Ed Cheely, development director of the Self Knowledge Symposium Foundation (SKS), will address young adult leaders at the fourth annual Diocesan Young Adult Leadership retreat on June 5-6, 2004. SKS is an educational nonprofit organization that encourages people to consciously develop their own personal, moral and spiritual values and to live according to them.

Cheely's topic will be spirituality and leadership. Says Cheely, "This is an incredibly important topic, especially for young adults who want to be effective, ethical leaders and need guidance to incorporate spirituality into leadership."

In recent months, Cheely has spoken on the same subject for several other prominent business and church-related groups including Cardinal Health Care, UNC Chapel Hill and the Duke University Pathways Program..

The two-day retreat brings together lay adults in their 20s and 30s to develop leadership abilities they can apply in their own parishes.

"In many ways, I see this as the most important diocesan young adult ministry event of the year, even though it is traditionally our smallest," said Michele Castle, M.T.S. Diocesan Director of Young Adult Ministry. "This is an opportunity for new and existing parish young adult leaders to get formation in practical leadership skills. We also take time to pray together, network with other leaders, be inspired, and plan parish calendars of young adult events for the year."

The Self Knowledge Symposium Foundation (www.selfknowledge.org) is a 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit organization that encourages people to consciously develop their own personal, moral and spiritual values and to live according to them. The SKSF creates experiential learning programs and social contexts within which people can explore the deeper questions in life, developing intellectual understanding and personal character in a quest for the life worth living.
